GOLDEN RULES: COMMON SENSE
AND PROFESSIONAL SECRECY
|
• Nobody knows you were trained as a conference interpreter,
· Nobody knows what your language combination is,
· And nobody knows how to contact you.
Don't expect things to be handed to you on a silver platter.
Take the initiative.
Which?
Keep your techniques up to speed:
· practice "mute" booth and consecutives with colleagues
· keep in touch with what's on the news
· get to know the jargon
(option, firm, per diem, manque à gagner, contract, etc)
· the role of the head of team, etc.
What principles?
The profession is organised both nationally and internationally (associations, unions, working groups, etc)
It has its own set of rules and useful procedures:
· A Code of Ethics and its professional standards,
· Contracts and working conditions,
· Bibliography: theoretical and practical,
· A range of publications
· Tips on how to search on the internet
· Recommendations on the use of IT
· Basic features of the working place
· How do you penetrate the different spheres in the market?
· Who will call you? How will you answer?
