AIIC-EU NEGOTIATING DELEGATION REPORT
8 FEB. 1999

At an extraordinary meeting on 3rd February 1999, the Comité du Statut (an inter-institutional body which brings together staff and management representatives) agreed the proposal for amending Article 78 of the CEOS. The text, after approval from the Commission via the written procedure, will be submitted to the Council of Ministers, Court of Justice, Court of Auditors and the European Parliament for opinion.

On 5th February negotiations for the new AIIC-EU Convention were opened by Mr Priestley, Secretary General of the European Parliament, Mr Trojan, Secretary General of the Commission, Mr Grass, Registrar of the Court of Justice and Malick Sy, President of AIIC. A timetable for the negotiations was agreed: 6 weekly meetings between now and the end of March should mean we can keep to schedule.

The technical group considering the consequences of the Court rulings, and more specifically compensation for any loss suffered by freelance interpreters, met again on 3rd February 1999. We trust that we will soon have some tangible results and therefore invite you to a:

Lors de sa réunion extraordinaire du 3 février 1999, le Comité du Statut ( organe interinstitutionnel réunissant des représentants de l'administration et du personnel) a adopté la proposition de modification de l'article 78 du RAA. Ce texte, après une adoption par procédure écrite à la Commission, sera présenté au Conseil des Ministres, la Cour de Justice, la Cour des Comptes, et au Parlement européen pour avis.

Le 5 février, la négociation de la nouvelle convention AllC-UE a été ouverte par Mr Priestley, Secrétaire général du Parlement européen, Mr Trojan, Secrétaire général de la Commission, Mr Grass, Greffier de la Cour de Justice et Malick Sy, Président de l'AllC. Un calendrier des travaux a été fixé : 6 réunions hebdomadaires d'ici fin mars devraient permettre de respecter les délais.

Le groupe de travail schargé d'étudier les conséquences des arrêts du TPI, et plus particulièrement la compensation d'éventuels préjudices subis par les interprètes free-lance a poursuivi ses travaux le 03/02/99. Nous devrions disposer d'éléments concrets bientôt, et vous invitons part conséquent à une

réunion sectorielle au Parlement européen, Espace Léopold
salle 1A002, le 17 février 1999 à 19h30 précises.
