RESOLUTION
PASSED ON 15 OCTOBER 1998
The free-lance interpreters, members and non-members
of AIIC, who work in the European Union sector, gathered at the Sectoral
Meeting in Brussels on 15th October 1998 (216 colleagues present and
378 represented):
· having heard the report presented by the Negotiating Delegation
following the Inter-institutional Consultation held on 15th October
1998;
· apprised of the commitment given by President Santer and
Commissioner Liikanen to obtain the agreement of the College of Commissioners
(by 28th October at the latest) to amend Article 78 of the CEOS to
extend the regulation applied to interpreters employed for parliamentary
sessions to freelance interpreters who work for the Commission and
the European Court of Justice;
1. Note the fact that the Delegation will monitor progress made in
this matter at inter-institutional meetings every 3 to 4 weeks and will
report to the Sector;
2. Express their agreement with the procedure proposed by the Delegation;
3. Insist that the deadline given be respected;
4. Reaffirm their support for the Delegation which they have elected
to represent them at the renegotiation of the five year Convention;
5. Instruct the Delegation to continue its consultation with staff colleagues
and trade union and professional organisations;
6. Decide to call off the action planned for the week of 19th-23rd October,
but to reserve their position beyond that date.
