RESOLUTION ADOPTED BY EU INTERPRETERS
ON 2 MARCH 1999

The freelance interpreters, members and non-members of AIIC, who work for the European Union Sector, gathered at the sectoral meeting in Brussels on 2nd March 1999 (525 colleagues present and represented),

• having heard the report given by the negotiating delegation
• informed that the institutions modified their negotiating stance between the meetings of 15th February and 1st March, particularly on the social issues (pension contribution and sickness insurance are not to be included in the proposed "lump-sum"),
• mindful of the need to maintain quality interpretation in the light of the demands of multilingualism,

1. Reaffirm their unshakeable commitment to the acquis of the convention and the mandate entrusted to the negotiating delegation;

2. Reiterate the importance they attach to the principle of equal treatment of all interpreters and reject the institutions' proposal on categories;

3. Confirm their support for the negotiating delegation;

4. Instruct the delegation to maintain its links with staff colleagues and the trade union and professional organisations with a view to future action as appropriate;

5. Call upon the delegation to reconvene the sectoral meeting when there are new developments to report.

Les interprètes free-lance, membres et non membres de l'AIIC, travaillant pour le Secteur Union Européenne, réunis en assemblée sectorielle à Bruxelles le 2 mars 1999 ( 525 collègues présents et représentés),

• ayant entendu le rapport présenté par leur délégation de négociation ,
• informés de l'évolution de la position des Institutions entre la réunion du 15 février et celle du 1er mars, notamment pour ce qui est du volet social (non "forfaitarisation" de la prévoyance vieillesse-décès, de l'assurance-maladie),
• conscients de la nécessité de maintenir une interprétation de qualité à la lumière des besoins du multilinguisme,

1. Réaffirment leur attachement indéfectible à l'ensemble de l'acquis de la Convention et au mandat qu'ils ont confié à leur délégation;

2. Réitèrent l'importance qu'ils attachent au principe d'égalité de traitement de tous les interprètes et rejettent la proposition des Institutions en matière de catégories ;

3. Confirment leur soutien à la délégation de négociation;

4. Chargent leur délégation de maintenir le contact avec les collègues fonctionnaires et les organisations syndicales et professionnelles afin de pouvoir déclencher des actions si nécessaire ;

5. Invitent leur délégation de négociation à reprendre la réunion sectorielle dès que des éléments nouveaux se seront produits.
