RESOLUTION ADOPTED BY EU-INTERPRETERS ON 17 FEB. 1999

Les interprètes free lance, membres et non membres de l'AIIC, travaillant pour le Secteur Union Européenne, réunis en assemblée sectorielle à Bruxelles le 17 février 1999,

• ayant entendu le rapport présenté par leur délégation de négociation, et ayant pris note de l'attachement au maintien de la Convention manifesté lors de la séance d'ouverture par les Secrétaires généraux de la Commission et du Parlement et par le Greffier de la Cour;

• informés des propositions faites par les Institutions lors de la réunion du 15 février ;

• soucieux du maintien de la qualité de l'interprétation à un moment où l'Union se prépare à un élargissement historique ;

1. Considèrent que les propositions faites par les représentants des Institutions constituent une trahison de l'esprit des 6 Accords précédents ;

2. Refusent ces propositions qui mettent en cause la globalité de l'acquis qu'ils sont décidés à défendre ;

3. Exigent que les Institutions entament les négociations sur la base de la Convention existante ;

4. Réaffirment leur soutien à la délégation qu'ils ont élue pour les représenter et pour défendre le mandat de négociation qu'ils lui ont confié le 21 avril 1998 ;

5. Chargent leur délégation d'informer leurs collègues fonctionnaires et les organisations syndicales et professionnelles de l'évolution de la négociation en vue d'organiser des actions;

6. Invitent leur délégation de négociation à reprendre la réunion sectorielle dès que des éléments nouveaux se seront produits.

Resolution

The freelance interpreters, members and non-members of AIIC, who work for the European Union Sector, gathered at the sectoral meeting in Brussels on 17th February 1999,

• having heard the report given by the negotiating delegation, and having noted the support expressed at the opening of the negotiations by the Secretaries General of the Commission and Parliament and the Registrar of the Court for maintaining the Convention;

• informed of the proposals made by the institutions at the meeting of 15^th February 1999;

• concerned to safeguard the quality of interpretation at a time when the Union is embarking on an historic enlargement;

1. Consider the proposals made by the representatives of the institutions a betrayal of the spirit of the previous six agreements;

2. Reject these proposals which challenge all that has been accomplished over successive agreements and express their determination to defend the acquis;

3. Call upon the institutions to enter negotiations on the basis of the current Convention;

4. Reaffirm their support for the delegation which they elected to represent them and defend the negotiating mandate adopted on 21^st April 1998;

6. Instruct the delegation to inform their staff colleagues and the trade union and professional organisations of progress in the negotiations with a view to future action; Call upon the delegation to re-convene the sectoral meeting when there are new developments to report.
