RESOLUTION ADOPTED BY EU FL INTERPRETERS ON 17 MARCH 1999

Resolution

The freelance interpreters, members and non-members of AIIC, who work for the European Union Sector, gathered at the sectoral meeting in Brussels on 17th March 1999 (573 colleagues present and represented):

• having heard the report given by the AIIC negotiating delegation,
• considering that one year after the request made by the negotiating delegation to open negotiations on time for renewal of the Convention, no proposal worthy of the name has been submitted by the institutions,
• recalling the challenge to the social dialogue due to the call for expressions of interest;
• considering that major delays in payments during the last six months have created an unacceptable situation for all the interpreters recruited to cover the needs of the different institutions,

Stress the need to restore a climate of trust so that genuine negotiation may lead to the conclusion of a new convention as quickly as possible;

Recall their unshakeable support for the acquis of the Convention, which forms the basis for negotiation entrusted to the negotiating delegation;

Renew their unconditional support for the AIIC delegation elected by the sector

Consider that the exceptional patience they have shown for a year is no longer justified;

Instruct the delegation to ask their staff colleagues to arrange a general assembly with a view to joint action before the end of March;

Call upon the negotiating delegation to reconvene the sectoral meeting when there are new developments to report.

This resolution was adopted unanimously.

Les interprètes free-lance, membres et non membres de l'AIIC, travaillant pour le Secteur Union européenne, réunis en assemblée sectorielle à Bruxelles le 17 mars 1999 ( 573 collègues présents et représentés)

• ayant entendu le rapport présenté par leur délégation de négociation AllC,
• considérant qu'un an après la demande qu'avait faite leur délégation de négociation d'ouvrir à temps les négociations pour le renouvellement de la Convention, aucune proposition digne de ce nom n'a été faite par les Institutions,
• rappelant la remise en question du dialogue social par l'organisation de l'appel à manifestation d'intérêt,
• considérant les conséquences des retards de paiement considérables des six derniers mois, qui ont créé une situation inacceptable pour tous les interprètes recrutés pour les besoins des différentes Institutions,

soulignent la nécessité de restaurer un climat de confiance pour qu'une véritable négociation puisse aboutir le plus rapidement possible à la conclusion d'une nouvelle convention;

rappellent leur attachement indéfectible à l'acquis de la Convention, qui constitue la base du mandat de négociation qu'ils ont confié à la délégation de négociation;

renouvellent leur soutien inconditionnel à la délégation AllC élue par le secteur;

estiment que la patience exceptionnelle dont ils ont fait preuve depuis un an ne se justifie plus,

chargent par conséquent leur délégation de demander à leurs collègues permanents d'organiser une assemblée générale afin de pouvoir mener une action en commun avant la fin mars;

invitent leur délégation de négociation à reprendre la réunion sectorielle dès que des éléments nouveaux se seront produits.
