French Translator/Interpreter, IMF, Washington

The International Monetary Fund is seeking a professional French Translator/Interpreter for its headquarters in Washington D.C., for a one year contract with possible extension.

Posting Closing Date: September 8, 2009.

Duties/Responsibilities

The incumbent's primary duty will be to perform translation and translation-related responsibilities under the supervision of the Chief of the French Section. The successful candidate will also be assigned to provide simultaneous and consecutive interpretation at HQ and on mission under the supervision of the Chief Interpreter.

Pre-selected candidates will be required to take a written translation test, a simultaneous and consecutive interpretation test, and to participate in an interview.

Qualifications

Applicants must be professional French translators and have the ability to translate economic, financial, legal, and statistical material from English into French, meeting high standards of quality within tight production deadlines using industry standard software.They should also have the ability to work as conference interpreters with experience in simultaneous and consecutive interpretation.

They must have French as their A language. Retour into English, passive Spanish and/or Portuguese is a plus.

Applicants must have the ability to work under pressure and should be willing to travel. A keen sense of teamwork is required.

An advanced university degree in translation and interpretation or in an economics-related field and relevant professional experience, preferably with international organizations are required.
