Title: Senior Interpreter

Description of duties
The incumbent reports directly to the Head Linguistic Service. Managing workload within agreed deadlines, the incumbent is responsible for:
- Translating and revising the translation of documents such as syllabi, reports, studies, biographies, letters, contracts, etc. from English and Italian into French.
- Providing simultaneous or consecutive interpretation between English and French and, as required, Italian, for lectures, briefings and discussions and, if necessary, during instructional tours and visits.
- Acting as language assessor on selection boards for civilian personnel if required.
- Undertaking other related duties as directed.
Essential qualifications
- Professional/Experience: several years' experience as a conference interpreter and translator/reviser, with particular expertise in the technical, military, defence and security fields. Knowledge in the fields of international relations, economics, history, geography and military science. Excellent drafting skills.
- Education/Training: very good general education at University level and/or University-level training in conference interpretation/translation.
- Security clearance: NATO Secret
- Language: mandatory: English and French SLP 5555 (Stanag 6001), Italian SLP 4444.
- Standard Automated Data Processing (ADP) knowledge:
- Word processing: working knowledge
- Spreadsheet: working knowledge
- Graphics presentation: working knowledge
- Database: basic knowledge.
Desirable qualifications
- Professional/Experience: experience in NATO or other international organisations primarily dealing with security issues.
- Education/Training: good knowledge of Microsoft Office Application Suite and of computer-assisted translation/dictation softwares.
- Language: any other language might be an asset.
Personal attributes
Sense of responsibility, tact and discretion. Ability to manage own translation workload and to adapt to a fluctuating interpretation/translation workload, in coordination with Head Linguistic Service. Ability to maintain a good working relationship with originators/requesters of linguistic support. Willingness to adopt new working practices and/or technology.
Professional contacts
Ability to maintain professional contacts with NATO colleagues and other associates, and to travel for that purposes as required.

Contract
Serving staff members will be offered a contract according to the NATO Civilian Personnel Regulations. Newly recruited staff will be offered a one year initial contract which may be followed by a further contract.
